Rae Corrado said she had been waiting hours for her mother to be transferred to Mercy from UPMC Presbyterian when she got word she was there.
"At the nurse's station, they told me 'Your mother's here.' And I ran back and I said, 'That's not my mom,'" Rae Corrado told Pittsburgh's Action News 4 Monday.
She said the staff insisted that the patient in the room was her mom because they saw the name "Gloria" on the patient's wristband.
"I said, 'I don't care what you saw,'" Rae Corrado told doctors at UPMC. "It's not my mom."
Rae Corrado said the unidentified woman appeared confused, possibly suffering from dementia, leaving her frantic with fear about her mother’s whereabouts.
After praying in the chapel, Rae Corrado said she contacted staff at Presby, where she said they confirmed her mother was still there waiting for transfer.
Later in the evening, she said her mother arrived safely.
"They wheel my mother in, and she says, 'I've been looking for you, were you lost?' And I'm like, 'No, mom, you were lost. I've been looking for you,'" Rae Corrado said.
Gloria Corrado, who spoke with Pittsburgh's Action News 4 late Monday night, said she was waiting in the hallway for hours to be picked up.
"I was velcroed to a stretcher. I couldn't move. I could hardly move my feet, let alone my body, for hours. And I kept thinking, 'This can't be legal,'" Gloria Corrado said.
Rae Corrado told Pittsburgh's Action News 4 that she is now worried about the mystery woman who ended up in her mother’s hospital bed and is pressing for accountability from UPMC.
"I'm done with UPMC," Gloria Corrado said.
A UPMC representative stated they are looking into the claim.
